sUPPORT oUR Music Program - Fall Direct Drive 2022
Our band, orchestra, drumline, and choir are all growing, and we need to purchase more instruments, and take care of the ones we have, so that every student that wants a music opportunity has that chance.
We are truly thankful that with the funds raised last year, Mr. Thomas was able to purchase a tuba ($5,000), a tenor saxophone ($2,000) and some marching percussion pieces. This is in addition to the regular purchases of music, strings, instrument repairs, and coaching time. Huge thanks to the PTSA for a grant that is covering a cello and two violins.
This year, we are getting ready for both this growth and a trip to Disney! Projections for what instruments we need now and for upcoming musicians include: a tuba, a marching baritone, a bassoon and more percussion equipment - snares, tenors, and a marimba. For Disney we are coordinating more manageable and comfortable uniforms, for both band and orchestra, that will last for years. There are also costs above and beyond what parents pay for the trip, that will be coordinated. We are hoping to raise $15000, to cover these costs and the cost of growing!
Please donate the amount that is comfortable, or maybe a little stretch, to help us with these goals. Direct Drive Donations labeled Music or made online at our Music Donation link will go straight to the Music Program. Donations can be made one of 3 ways:
The Direct Drive is one of two major fundraisers we coordinate, the other is our Big Band Dinner Dance in March, a community event that will also have an element of fundraising. And we may ask for a little here and there as we go along. We greatly appreciate any donations you make during the year and endeavor to use every dollar to the fullest.
Does your employer match your donation? Our brand new non-profit, Friends of West Seattle Music and Drama, is now set up for Microsoft employees and we will be happy to do any paperwork for other employers. Please contact Miki at fowsmd.treasurer@gmail.com to coordinate that set up.
